What’s In Style for Tile? Fun New Bathroom Tile Ideas

Don’t be afraid of tile! It might seem like the more expensive, VERY permanent option, but the durability, functionality, and just plain fun style it offers makes it my favorite choice for a bathroom. Here are some bathroom tile ideas that can give your space a completely new life!

Large-format tiles

These oversized tiles are a popular choice for modern bathrooms. They can create a clean, streamlined look, and make the room feel more spacious. We used them in this small hall bath to draw your eye up the wall and make the entire room seem more spacious, while keeping the space calm and serene. Matching the grout to the tile keeps the long line unbroken, maximizing the effect.

Geometric Tiles

Whether you choose hexagons, diamonds, or some other shape, geometric tiles can add interest and texture to your bathroom walls or floors. Pair them with more traditional square and rectangle tiles to keep the visual interest moving throughout the room.

Subway Tile

I know, you’re thinking, “Subway tiles have been the obvious choice for bathrooms forever,” but hear us out! They can still feel fresh and modern when used in creative ways. For example, you could mix and match different colors or patterns to create a unique look. or lay them in an unexpected pattern—or even combine patterns to really feel new!

Mosaic Tiles

Mosaic tiles are another classic that you can add any amount of creativity to for a modern new feel. Add color and texture to your bathroom walls or floors in a wide range of materials, such as glass, stone, or ceramic. There’s really nothing better for creating intricate patterns or designs—or even sharing an important message!

Metallic Tile

Metal tiles, such as copper or stainless steel, can make your bathroom sleek and sophisticated, or vintage and unique. It’s all in the styling. They work particularly well in contemporary or industrial-style bathrooms.

Wood-Look Tile

Wood finishes can look rustic and cabin-y, or sleek and Zen. Either way, if you want the look of wood in your bathroom but don’t want to deal with the maintenance issues that come with real wood, wood-look tiles can be a great alternative. They mimic the look and texture of wood, but are more durable and water-resistant. And you won’t get splinters!

Big and Bold Tiles

A personal favorite of mine, bold and bright tiles can add a pop of color and give your bathroom its own vibrant personality. Stick with one color or go all out. These can be especially fun in a kids’ bath or a small half bath. You can use them as a small accent, or go BIG and cover the entire space!
