5 small bathroom ideas to make the most of your space

One of our favorite things to do here at Storia Interiors & Design is to work with clients who are struggling with their small bathrooms. Efficient space planning with an experienced designer is key for maximizing the usable square footage in your bathroom, but here are a few other ways to play with perception and increase your satisfaction in your small space!

Install a glass shower door, or splurge on a walk-in shower

Whatever your budget, you can make a change to your shower space to make your room seem larger. If you’re undergoing a full renovation, consider a curbless walk-in shower. Extend your floor tile into the shower space to make your room seem like it goes on forever!

If you’re not renovating, consider switching out your dark shower curtain for a stylish glass enclosure. In this case, the window is able to allow all the beautiful natural light in, which makes the space feel bigger.

Take it off the floor

In a small bathroom, you’ll maximize impact if you let your eye extend the full distance of the room. Installing a floating vanity gives the impression of more square footage, and as an added benefit, it allows you more space to show off a statement floor tile!

Let there be light

There’s nothing worse than feeling claustrophobic in a tight bathroom with no windows. Natural lighting is always a great addition for any space. Adding just one window will create the illusion of a much bigger bathroom, and will create a bright and airy effect. Consider a transom window in a shower stall, or, if you do have access to a bathtub in your space, a skylight over the tub is a fun option.

Texture and pattern

Considering small bathroom ideas, the design elements of texture and pattern are even more important than in other spaces. By blending the two in unison with tile and wallpaper, you can keep the eye moving throughout the room and create interest in any amount of space.

Find your niche

In a tight room, any open space is fair game. If you’ve got a niche, add floating shelves for creative storage options. If you’re undertaking a renovation, ask the contractors if opening up space between studs is an option. It may require a bit of reframing, but it’s a favorite technique at Storia Interiors & Design! If you don’t love the idea of your stuff out in the open, you can hide the less attractive items in stylish baskets.
